If you have a favorite team, or just like to watch good pro football, you know what time it is:  Time for teams to start making decisions for next year.  We have some big names up for grabs, and I’m excited to see where these guys are headed.

Quarterbacks:

Jake Delhomme - What happened?  He was mediocre to good for about 4 years running, and then all of a sudden….Jake’s not here.  Thankfully, Moore stiff-armed him out of his starting spot, just in time to have a respectable season.  I recommend a club where the fans will say, “At least this is better than last year,” no matter how he performs.  Let’s say… the Browns.

Michael Vick - Where would he fit in?  He wants to take Jake’s spot in Charlotte, but the word is they don’t want him.  He is definitely a running quarterback, not a pocket type-of-guy, and his passing game, though improving, isn’t as high caliber as say, Peyton Manning or Brett Favre.  I would think a team with terrible passing offense, and needing a running boost, would be a top choice (Chiefs or Raiders).

Receivers/TEs:

Terrell Owens - What’s next?  He showed off for awhile in Dallas, then faded and was made fun of for crying to the press.  Then he went to… where did he go?  Oh yeah, Buffalo.  I’ve heard so little about him that I almost forgot.  He performed okay, but that’s not where he needs to be.  He needs to shine.  If he’s not a star, not the center-of-attention, he won’t be happy.  If he isn’t happy, he won’t perform at his potential.  I am sending him to… Tennessee.  Maybe he can make Vince Young’s game look a little better than what it is, too.

Miles Austin - What is Dallas thinking?  HURRY UP!  MAKE AN OFFER!  NO, A BETTER OFFER!  If he ends up going to someone in the NFC, he will demolish them.  He likes Dallas, he’s said that, and why Jerry Jones isn’t serving him on a silver platter right now is beyond me.  Is he going to put all his hopes and dreams into T-Ro?  I hope not, because they will be assuredly dashed, my friend.  Tony Romo isn’t terrible, but he’s not good enough to bring in low/no-grade receivers to replace Austin.

RBs:

Willie Parker - How are you going to fix it?  Willie Parker’s season, last year, was the worst showing of his career.  He is still a young man (not quite 30), with at least a few good years left, and I think he is the type of guy who hates to be talked about as “not doing so well,” or “having a bad year.”  I predict a powerful reckoning next year.

Darren Sproles - Are you for real? The past season (or two), LT has had some ups and definite downs - scales tipping more towards the down side of things.  Though not “awful,” his shortcomings this year have allowed a new star to shine in the Charger galaxy - Darren Sproles.  Will you continue to progress or start to peter out like your backfield counterpart?

Cadillac Williams - How do you feel?  After injury-plagued seasons, Cadillac has returned in what appears to be full force.  This past year he rushed for 800+ yards (top 25), with only 1 fumble on 210 carries.  Not a bad showing.  Keep your drinking your milk and eating an apple-a-day so you can stay healthy enough to continue improving.

I want to introduce everyone to a very special company called Wakami World. They are a social enterprise that markets products from rural communities in Guatemala. Over 15 years ago, they started working with a single rural community and now collaborate with over 40 groups. Wakami has a dream of an ideal world - one where everyone lives in harmony, where diversity is celebrated, and where rights and responsibilities are treasured. These aspirations encourage them to find solutions in which prosperity and well-being are common to everyone.

We had the chance to meet one of the incredible Founders of Wakami World, Maria Pacheco, and asked her to share with us the Meaning of Wakami.

Wakami currently has items for sale on multiple marketplaces.  You can find their goods at www.wakami.net, ebay, etsy, and artfire.com.  Their handmade goods are absolutely stunning, and the fact that they are all fair trade makes you feel good when you purchase from them.

Check out some of the wonderful items they have to offer……

If you look at our location (on our website), you will see that we are based in Durham, NC - also known as a part of “Tobacco Road.”  The concept of Tobacco Road comes from a novel from the 1930s, and refers to the area of North Carolina in which tobacco was mass produced in its “hay day.”  It has come to be a house hold phrase in these parts, due to the “Battle of Tobacco Road,” which means U.N.C. vs. Duke - which has been ranked the best rivalry in sports.  This is ACC country, and the tournament is a huge deal here.  At one point in time, certain districts would shut down schools on those days!  Everyone has their respective team/conference, but around here, if you aren’t rooting for your squad in the tournament, you’re an alien.  I love the rich history that it brings, the excitement it summons, and the general union that comes along with it - everyone, whether at work, school, or play, and no matter who your team is, is constantly asking, “Who heard the score last,”  ”what’s the score,” and “who’s up?”  It’s fantastic.  This year, the rankings/seedings are as follows:

1. Duke

2. Maryland

3. Florida State

4. Virginia Tech

5. Wake Forest

6. Clemson

7. Georgia Tech

8. Boston College

9. Virginia

10. North Carolina

11. N.C. State

12. Miami

Since this is day 2 of the tourney, the following teams have made it out of the first round:

Duke, Maryland, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Virginia, N.C. State, and Miami.

Additionally, Duke advanced today, past Virginia, and Virginia Tech and Miami are battling it out, currently.

I’m not going to tell you who I pull for, because, quite honestly, this year…. is embarrassing.   Anyway, good luck to the remaining teams, and I encourage you to take a look back, and check out the history of the ACC or whatever your conference of choice happens to be.

Who saw it coming? Super Bowl XLIV.  I was expecting a neck and neck tug-of-war ordeal with a photo, slow-mo finish.  That was definitely not the case last night.  It was a struggle for all of about a quarter.  The second quarter-and on Saints, were not the team that was playing the first quarter.  With that, and gallant coaching decisions, the Saints essentially cruised to victory.  The only time I was, “on the edge of my seat,” was during that dog pile that took place after the onside kick that started the second half.

Another exciting moment was that unbelievable catch-and-reach for the 2-pt. conversion by Lance Moore, and don’t forget the interception + 74 yd. return by Tracy Porter.

Both quarterbacks were at least satisfactory (though one of them had one more interception than the other). Peyton Manning had a mediocre 88.5 passer rating, while Drew Brees registered a zeroed-in 114.5.

Other notable events:

-Drew Brees tied the record for most completions in a Super Bowl (32 - Tom Brady) and received MVP honors.

-Stover missed a 51 yd. field goal that would have stopped Saint momentum

-Garcon, Collie, Addai, Wayne (etc.) missing some important catches - check out the replays if you didn’t get to see it Sunday

-And most importantly…..Kim Kardashian kissed Reggie Bush after the game - in front of the world

Next year I’m betting Cowboys vs. Chargers……we’ll see.

Once again, the Grammys have come and gone, teeming with drama, salacious clothing, and overrated/overplayed music.  I will admit, however; that I have fallen into the guilty pleasure that is Lady Gaga, but most of the rest of that muck will be passed up by myself any given day.  Having said that, what was my enchanting Lady Gaga wearing?

Not exactly provocative (like the Pink performance).

The music:  as I said, overrated and overplayed, in my opinion.  Among winners were: Beyonce, Kings of Leon, Black Eyed Peas,  and Taylor Swift.  If you turn on  your local top-40/pop type station, you will undoubtedly hear one, some, or all of these artists within the first 4 songs.

And on we go, to… the drama.

-Beyonce introduced Tina Turner as “The Queen” and that upset Aretha Franklin

-Michael Jackson’s family wasn’t invited

-All the performances were inspired by classic musicals

-Taylor Swift dropped one of her Grammys backstage

-Drake, Eminem, Lil Wayne’s “Forever” performance was bleeped so much that TV viewers that there were technical difficulties

-Was T-Pain drunk?

There you go guys.  A recap of the Grammys.  Oscars are next, let’s see what will happen then.

We have a huge selection of Chinese Laundry heels and boots right now.  If you don’t at least take a look, you are passing up a great deal.  These shoes are definitely comparable to Charles David, Cole Haan, Steve Madden, and similar brands, but you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on them.  Being in style and paying an affordable price?  Sounds like a deal.  Everyone has said this at one point in time, in reference to a brand:  ”Who’s going to know?”  Exactly.  Who will know these are Chinese Laundry brand and not Kenneth Cole or Gucci or whoever.  If I had to describe them in three words, it would be these: elegant, stylish, and sexy. Definitely take a peek at these on www.designerathletic.com.

First off, congratulations New Orleans, on a deserved win.  Minnesota, you had a great game, for the most part. The thing I don’t understand is how the blame seems to be entirely on Brett Favre’s shoulders.  Why is that?  No game is ever determined by one play/event.  Every event leading up to the final score plays a part in the outcome.  Brett threw an interception at a crucial point in the game, I get that, but if he had thrown a completion that lead to a touchdown, that one play would not have won the game, either.  The missed tackles contributed to a loss, poor blocks contributed to a loss, 6 fumbles contributed to a loss (including Adrian Petersen’s in the red zone), allowing a 60 yard kick return in the 3rd quarter contributed to a loss, secondary coverage that was non-existent on some plays contributed to a loss… We all understand the point right?  If any of those things would have happened at the time Favre’s interception happened, the papers and critics would all be blaming that player, instead.  Anyway, I bet we will see Favre for at least one more year now, and good luck to NO and IND.
